The Venetoulis Institute is a nonprofit organization founded to bring high-quality local journalism to the Baltimore metro area. We started on this journey because local news is under siege across the country with many news organizations either shutting down, downsizing to survive, or being bought out by hedge funds with a focus on the bottom line. Despite Baltimore’s proud history of great journalism, our region’s publications have not been spared the realities of the news industry.
We are creating a vibrant, strong, trustworthy, and sustainable news organization to fulfill our mission. We are seeking to re-imagine what a news organization for the future looks like and will be launching The Baltimore Banner, a multi-platform news operation, covering a broad range of topics from local government to culture and the arts.
Our mission: To be an indispensable resource that strengthens, unites, and inspires our Baltimore community. We will accomplish this through trustworthy quality journalism that tells the varied stories of our people, holds our leaders accountable, and delivers local news that readers are willing to support.
Our vision: To be the leading provider of news and lifestyle content in the Baltimore metro area
We are rapidly building out our Baltimore operations and are looking for top-notch local talent with skills in News Media, Digital Product, Marketing, Analytics, and Technology. We are a dynamic, diverse, collaborative, and curious team that places journalistic integrity above all.
Every contribution counts. Thank you!
Established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, The Baltimore Banner welcomes your tax-deductible charitable contributions. Our chairman and founder, Stewart Bainum, Jr. is providing the philanthropic seed capital that will enable The Banner to develop a new and sustainable business model for local journalism.
Your tax-deductible gifts support the work of the newsroom, our editors, and reporters – the heart of our local news mission. All outside contributions will be 100 percent allocated to the newsroom, with no overhead taken.
Your gifts will translate into true impact and better outcomes for the communities we cover. Especially as we prepare for the official launch of The Baltimore Banner, we thank you for your early, generous support!
